The claim that animals have ‘rights’ was first put forward by the Australian philosopher Peter Singer in the 1970s and has been the subject of heated and emotional debates ever since. There are many contexts in which the question of ‘animal rights’ comes up. Should we farm animals? If so by what techniques? Should we eat animals? Should we hunt and fish them? Is it morally acceptable to use animals as sources of entertainment in the context of zoos, circuses, horse racing etc.? Often the same organizations that campaign on environmental issues (e.g. Greenpeace) are also concerned for the welfare of animals: both sets of concerns derive from a commitment to the value of Nature and the Earth. The question of animal rights might well come up in a debate on biodiversity, and is one with so many political and social implications that it is also worth having in its own right. This debate is about the ethical principles at issue; the separate debates on biodiversity, vegetarianism, zoos, blood sports, and animal experimentation deal with more of the concrete details. Therefore, should we ban the keeping of animals in zoos?

I love animals. Animals were here first and it's not our right to make them get down on there knees and bow down to us. It should be the other way around, but to where we have their rights, too. It's the same thing as shooting a human in the head. I made a vid on YouTube about Animal Cruelty for anyone who wants to check it out.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtaLk-EFnng. I would like it if I could be a vegetarian, but it's too hard. I think that the world could make eating meat illegal. But then, the animal popluation would increase and then they would overrun us, so maybe the government could reduce our meat eatings to not as much. BUT, if we all stopped eating meat, then the animal population would go WAY to high and then we'd be eating vegetarian stuff and they would be too and there's not enough for all of us. Then as time goes by, the plant population would decrease and then us and animals would VERY SLOWLY die out. The plants are the source of ALL food. They fo through the prcess of photosynthesis, using solar energy for food and then an animal will eat that plant and then we'll eat that animal and we'll gain that solar energy. Everything is made out of plants: pizza, chicken, sausage, US, etc. Although, for every animal that eats the next, 10% of the energy is lost. Example: Plants have 10,000 kilo calories. 1st consumer then eats the plant and gains 1000 kcal. 2nd consumer then eats that animal and they gain 100 kcal. Then the 3rd consumers, us, eat that animal and we gain 10 kilocalories. This is all based on energy pyramids. So since we eat animals that eat plants which gain solar energy so do we, therefore we and other foods are made of plants and solar energy. Anybody else that can pass that up?

I don't think we should ban keeping animals in zoos. I prefer them to run free, but I worry about the endangered animals. Poacher might wipe them out and then there are no more type of that animal anymore. I think animals should be kept in zoos only to help them produce more species of that animals. Otherwise the animals should be free

Personally, I say zoos are A-okay. I mean, okay. Let's see here. Animals don't really think, per se. As in, ooh, wouldja look at that? I get a nifty place to call my own and freakin' free food! Because y'see, the wild isn't as fun and beautiful as one might think, y'know...

Uggh! I hate zoos! They're SO cruel! They deserve to be in the wild! Not to mention, they're not that fun either ~

Cruelty to animals is part of a cruel, violent, and destructive mindset. As such, it is a thing to be discouraged and scorned. However, the needs of animals are, and should be, secondary to those of humans. That sounds harsh, but the prophet Mani was even worse, he thought that animals were comprised of dark matter, which had evil origins.
I think Silver Springs should be an example that zoos should follow, the animals have ample room and are in the open.
Animals eat of each other, and have done so long before Man came to the scene. Most groups involved have goals which have less to do with promoting the welfare of animals, and more to do with degrading humans and destroying the seeds of the divine before they can germinate.
