After leaving Captain Gordon and the delivery boy in the main lobby, Kurtis received alarming but welcome news from General Carter in a confidential meeting. During this meeting, the secrets of earth's motives for journeying to the netherworld were revealed, including the intention of sacrificing Gordon and obtaining control over the resources of the underworld. While baffled and uncertain, Kurtis heard the words Carter had wanted him to hear: a chance to rid the position of Earth's defender of the incompetent Captain Gordon. "Better yet... for assisting in the operation, I'll claim the spot myself. I'll handle all of the problems that idiot was too ignorant and lazy to address himself! No, I'll go above and beyond. I'll stop anyone from ever ending up like I did again, crying out for help and receiving no aid in reply from the one all of our planet looks to as a savior," he swore, clenching and releasing his cold, synthetic fingers.
"Now... to plan the expedition. I'm amazed the General's allocating such a large portion of Earth's fleet of spaceships to this mission. Even the Gargantua is supposed to be taking part. I don't know whether that's all just overkill or whether we're being cautious... I mean, this is the netherworld we're talking about," he thought to himself, rubbing chin worriedly. "There's going to be stuff down there that's completely inhuman. Of course, they'll probably lack our technology... Man has progressed a long way," he reminded himself with a thoughtful nod. "At any rate, now it seems that all there is to do for me now is to wait for that fool to make his own trip, then follow undercover at his heels."
