Drew took a long minute to answer the question, having been reasonably dazed by the near-death experience. She was absolutely covered in mud, and could hardly move because of it. She normally was rather tolerant of being dirty, but this pushed even her limits. She coughed with impressive force, dislodging the spots of mud that had penetrated her lungs, all the while gazing up at Manik with an expression similar to that of a wounded puppy. "Yes, I'm fine," she said in a raspy whisper. "I'm just a little startled, is all."
Ka Sel lay curled up at the top of this ridge, watching the two without expression. He knew he was most likely going to receive some sort of retaliation for his indifference, and this thought was what wiped his former gleeful expression from his maw. But he didn't move. Just waited for his fate on top of the hill.
Drew's claw-like hand trembled visibly in the light as she ran it across her eyes to displace the mud gathered there. The katana in her left hand dropped onto the safety of the dirt beside her, no longer at risk of being lost. She felt sick. "I'm sorry, sir. I didn't mean to worry you like this." She offered a forced but serene smile. She did feel genuinely bad about what she'd put him through. "I have a tendency to be a bit over-exuberant at times."

Manik shook his head at the woman samurai. "No, no...you don't need to be sorry. It could have happened to anyone., he said in a somewhat soothing tone. That must have been major hell that she went through to get that sword back...it was common courtisy that he help her out. He pulled a slightly holey rag out of his pouch, and wiped some of the dirt and grime away from her face. "Although, in my opinion, you should choose your friends wiser. Your...ahem...FRIEND...literaly did nothing to help you in your time of need. I personally find this intolerable and disgusting.", he said, pointing towards Ka Sel.
Now...now he could finally get in the face of this two-bit coward who dared call himself a friend of this poor woman. He stood up slowly, and slowly advanced toward Ka Sel with anger in his eyes. This was something that he personally found disgusting.

Ka Sel was instantly on his feet as the man approached him. His head was bowed gently and his front paws spaced apart in a defensive stance as his lower jaw dropped to show the teeth that lay there. This was dangerous ground being treaded, and while he most definitely was a lax personality, he still was not a being to be trifled with. With crimson fur bristling to new heights and a groaning hiss mumbling from his throat, it didn't seem as if he would simply roll over if challenged. "Watch where you step, boy."

Manik was just about to continue his approach, but as he saw Ka Sel rise to his feet, he stopped. He raised an eyebrow at the beast for a few seconds. Was this guy for real? Manik closed his eyes and sighed, and then, for some reason, he started to chuckle. The chuckle slowly turned into to broad laughter, which echoed through the swamp with great vibrato. After settleing down, he eyed down the beast again, only now with a small grin on his face.
"Did you actually think that I would attack you? What do you take me for, and idiot?", Manik said from afar, still only a few steps away from Drew. "A beast of your size and power would easily pounce me to the ground and rip my head off for sure. No, I am merely confused and angry that you would so easily abandon your close friend at their time of need.", he explained, looking back slightly at Drew, as he was not so perfectly sure she understood what was going on.

"There's no point arguing with him. He doesn't understand emotion on that level." Drew didn't turn to face Manik even as she spoke to him. Instead, she was carefully stripping off her soiled armor and laying it on the ground beside her. Thigh guards, wrist guards, and a scanty breastplate was really all the armor protection she had, yet without them she looked even smaller than before. Her head turned slightly to catch Manik's gaze. A slight frown was on her lips as she left herself naked by samurai standards, in just a tattered green tank top and cloth pants, both also drenched in mud. "He's literally incapable of understanding the suffering of others. You can't be mad at him for it. It's just the way he is."
Ka Sel's soft black ears quirked with the sound of Drew's dark voice. His stance hadn't changed at all, even through Manik's rantings, though he certainly had taken pleasure in hearing himself be called a beast with 'size' and 'power.' His tongue curled in his mouth, with the tip curving in the shape of a J. He wasn't used to Drew speaking this boldly. He loved it. Had he not been holding a defensive shape like this, he might have gone into flailing ecstasies from her tone of voice alone.
Drew turned her head back to her work of picking the caked mud from her furry hands. "But feel free to waste your time. I'd like to get back to town before my armor rusts, so if you could just point me in the right direction, I'll be off, and you two can fight for the rest of the night."

Manik pondered this over in his head for the lonest time. Unable to feel the distress of others...? How was that even possible? Even though it was positive that he was a demon...ah, well. If this was the case, he should no doubt be silent on the matter any more. It was clearly obvious that their fighting was upsetting the fair lady.
Manik cleared his throat in order to speak more clearly. "Well then, if that's the case,a town is just North of here, named Holt Village., he explained to the two. It probably wasen't a good idea to send Drew there with Ka Sel, seeing that Ka Sel looked dangerously close to an untamed beast, but what the hell. They've seen worse up there. "You should find everything you could possibly want up there: Food, shelter, and a weapons and armor shop as well. You should be just find when you get there."
He looked at the ground for a second, and then to the sky. If he stayed here, Manik would no doubt catch a terrible diesese that has killed more than a thousand warriors: boredom. He closed his eyes, and then turned to Ka Sel. "If...if it's all the same to you two, may I come with you? I seem to have lost myself as well, but Ican no doubt tell you which way Holt Village is.", he asked.

Ka Sel was the one who answered. "Oh, feel free to follow us along. Drew gets terribly dull to talk to after a while. Even you would be an improvement."
Drew didn't care about being openly bashed like this. Her hands were fiddling with her armor again, this time searching for a hidden pouch on the underside of her wrist guards. She found it soon enough, and drew out several feet of leather string that shockingly enough were completely dry. She immediately set to work running this string through a specific series of cloth loops located on every metal piece.
Ka Sel finally found the ability to relax, and those formerly tensed feline muscles softened beneath his skin. His tongue ran out past his thin black lips in a show of carelessness as he strode past Manik towards Drew, with his eyes locked on the man as he passed by. "You've heard my companion's name, and I am Ka Sel. What shall we call you, then?"
Drew stood up with a look of boredom on her face. Her armor was strung together neatly on the leather thread, and with a swift movement she pulled the thread around her waist and tied it there. Silent again, at least for the time being.

Manik sighed, suprised of how easily Ka Sel was able to joke with him after the near-standoff they just had. Must be easygoing, he thought. Although he did think of how much he teased his companion was just a little much. But, eh, that wasen't his say. She didn't seem to mind. For a second, Manik wondered if they were possibly lovers...but then brushed off the thought from his mind.
Oh, right. Ka Sel's question. "Well, some people call me Stranger, but my real name is Manik. It is...nice...to meet your aquantence, both of you.", he said, taking off his hat. He always had a thing about that. Oh well. After putting his hat back on, he looked through the dead trees and marshland, and saw even more stretching on for a few miles, from what he could guess.
He looked back at his "companions", and sighed. "Holt Village is about one or two miles north of here, give or take. Shall we be going now?", he asked both of them.

"Manik. Sounds like the name of one of those drinks you love so dearly, Drew." Ka Sel neared his beloved and brushed his face against her side. A baritone purr left him that rumbled like low thunder, beckoning Drew to respond to his affection with a gentle pat on the mane. They weren't lovers, yet Ka Sel wished desperately that they were at times. But he felt exactly the same way about every woman he met, and so Drew never knew any sympathy for this demonic 'crush' he harbored. The feeling wasn't mutual, and so it didn't matter.
The great cat circled Drew's legs to face Manik once again. Drew was committed to her silence entirely by now, and just stared with a blank expression to an anonymous point on the horizon. Ka Sel, rude as he was, was all the voice she needed. Lucky for her, she'd met someone who loved to talk.
Ka Sel nodded shortly. ".. Yes, let's be off. Lead the way, dear."
Oddly enough, he was talking to Manik during this statement. Hm.

Manik raised his eyebrow at the demon, and then sighed. Yep, this was a true-to-heart demon. And although he didn't exactly feel thrilled of being called "dear", it was better than staying here in the swamp where they could be ganged by even more demons. He sighed and closed his eyes, letting his natural sense of direction take him toward Holt Village.
His eyes snapped open, and he pointed straight north. "I sense heavy demonic activity in that direction. That's got to be Holt Village.", he said to Ka Sel and Drew. His only real power, to sense the energy of different life forms, was working well lately, but he knew it wouldn't be long until they started acting up again. He started to walk in the direction of the village, beckoning Ka Sel and Drew to come with him.
