alright, this is my RPG system I use sometimes, let's see how this goes
-----
Akki is a guide to the world we made in an RPG called kitsuneakki (named after my character, acclue lockheart, who you will most likely see in this game), I really think it was a fantastic world we made, and I use it in a lot of RPGs. This is a community game, so this entire book is subject to amendment, almost anything could be changed...
History:
It began as what was going to be a fan game of Inuyasha, it quickly went FAR from the show, I'm fairly sure we could publish it without any copyright infringement issues... we haven't yet because the original one isn't over yet (its VERY long already and should make a great novel when we revise it) if you REALLY feel like reading it, you can find it at kitsuneakki.livejournal.com . For those of you who don't feel like reading what very well may be over 1,000 posts, I can summarize all you REALLY need to know from the original in a moment. I also need to say that the ONLY concrete event in this system happened in the original game, all these games other than it are hypothetical, other games can be included, but if we used all of them at once I'm SURE they would conflict.
okay, yes I know, I said the first one never ended, so how can it be a defined event? well I just assumed what would happen, I got anxious for the start of new games on the system, since posting was somewhat slow at the time and it seemed like it wouldn't end... ever... so, yeah, I just made up a very vague ending :P
The game takes place in an un-historically-acurate feudal Japan, which is currently in a state of anarchy beyond the individual villages, basically there is no national government and the populated areas control themselves. Alright then, about the last game...
The main enemy of the original was an EXTREMELY powerful demon who was never actually named, and was simply refered to as the Oni-Patousai (which translates into demon manslayer) he had supposedly been killed 150 years prior to the game, but this game tends to take death and punch it square in the face :P. after that, he seemed impossible to get rid of, often being reported as killed again, but always reappearing somewhere else. Our group from the game eventually found him at a fort in the far north, after penetrating the large barrier around it, they freed the souls he had stolen to use as bodies (which explains how he could be killed so many times). They destroyed him using a powerful magic amulet, just before he unleashed a world-destroying magic spell. They defied fate doing this, the world was meant to end, and they stopped it, thus fate was broken and no-one was bound by it any longer. But as I said, death is not a very definite factor in this world...
Death:
Quite possibly the most defining factor of the akki system is that death is hardly where it ends, so here's the course of events. First, of course, everyone lives. When they die, their soul is sent through a difficult process in which you really need luck more than ability to get through. They first go to purgatory, represented as a large white void, though no-one remembers this after they go through. They are led through their entire live's memories, with some slight changes, they must make sure everything goes as planned, with one catch. Their memories are taken from them at the start of this process, they have no idea what is SUPPOSED to happen, which is why it is most reliant on luck over anything else. If they fail, (which is most likely) their soul will ascend to heaven and that will be the end of it. But on the off-chance they succeed, they will return to Earth (with their memory restored) as a familiar (see the next section). After the angels believe that the familiar has earned it, they will return them to their original form as an immortal (basically looks like their original form, but with wings). These beings are free to do as they wish for their afterlife, occasionally doing services such as instructing new familiars (who have to be confused as h*** at that point), and are even allowed to freely travel between the light and dark dimensions. Though if they are interacting too deeply with what happens on Earth, they are first warned, then if they continue to deeply interact with mortals, they are simply ascended as if they failed memory retrieval. if immortals are majorly hurt in any way, they temporarily revert to their familiar form.
Familiars:
A familiar is the form those who die assume as an animal, the only distinct physical difference from a normal animal is a halo over their head. The animal they become used to be based on their personality before fatefall (when fate ended), but due to the new unpredictability of it, it is now randomly chosen. They literally come crashing back to Earth like a meteorite, somewhere on their person holding a ring. This ring is meant for the person that they trusted the most in life and will only work for them. The ring allows the user not only to communicate with the familiar, but to give it commands. Any command given to the familiar by it's owner must be done, they physically cannot refuse it. There is one flaw to this ring system, every ring works on every familiar, so owners can control those that don't belong to them. An undefined amount of time in this form, familiars grow wings, as growing them in the next stage of their afterlife would cause them to grow in an unusable way, they are too stiff to move rapidly enough to fly until they become immortals. Obviously familiars cannot die, as they are already dead, they can be beaten senseless and they have to experience all the pain, but that's as far as it can go... all familiars are susceptible to euphoria.
Demons:
basically, demons are the technical term for anthropomorphic animals (furrys) in this world (think Inuyasha on this one). Demons actually are living things and are not always evil as the name implies, it's just that the majority of my country is anti-demon, so they gave them a bad name that stuck. All demons have sharp claws at the end of their hands, tails, and large ears on the top of their heads just like the animal they take after, they otherwise seem human. Demons don't grow very large until they are teenagers (they remain about 2 feet tall until they are around 13 years old!). All demons have the ability to transform into their animal counterparts (with the exception of Raks), unfortunately for them, clothes do not transform with them, which can cause some... embarassing situations... all demons are susceptible to euphoria (except shadow demons). Demons also speak a seperate language from humans (we just assume it is translated if there is someone nearby who understands both the human and demon language. But every species of demon is a little different, as described more specifically below.
Fox Demons:
-known to be ferocious hunters
-very hospitable to anything they don't consider prey
-adept at illusion magic, the only species with the ability to transform themselves
-children, who are often inexperienced at transforming, use a leaf on their head as a focus
-only collective demon species to establish a non-nomadic village
-run on a barter system in their village, so they have little knowledge of things like currency around the rest of Japan
-population is diminished after a massacre during the fatefall incident
Wolf Demons:
-scattered race, but not all that rare
-usually loners, unlike normal wolves
-usually very intelligent
-very close to nature
-keep their clothes when they transform for some reason, anything they had on beforehand will disappear and reappear when they resume normal form.
-adept fighters both with their claws and with weapons
-traditionally mate for life, they choose one and stay with them
Cat Demons:
-extremely rare, often hide themselves to avoid attention, and are good at it
-mysterious, little is known about them
-curious and mischievous by nature
-some are born without the ability to transform, and are referred to as Raks, often being a specific breed such as tigers or panthers, and traditionally are marked as thieves
Shadow Demons:
-not furry-like like the other species
-weak, but have a hive intelligence, they work in HUMONGOUS groups
-flat, shapeless, black forms running across the ground (nearly invisible at night)
-let claws rise up from their form to attack others
-have the ability to possess others, attaching themselves to their vitals, so any attempt at excorcism will result in instant death. Only ever attempt to take over fox demons, as they are the only ones shadows can manipulate the transformation powers of
-when possessing fox demons, can use the fox's natural transformation ability to become an extremely powerful being that looks just like the regular demon, but completely black all over, this form causes them to become a great number of times faster/stronger, growing their claws out, sometimes several feet. This only happens when the one possessed shows an overbearing emotion. In this form it will attack anyone the possessed doesn't have feelings for (it won't attack the friends of the person)
-if more than one possesses a fox demon, they can overpower the possessed's emotions and transform at anytime, attacking everything.
-led by an extremely intelligent shadow, the "shadow king", who has control over the others and has some minor psychic abilities such as telepathy and getting occasional psychic visions
-the soul of anything killed by a shadow demon becomes a shadow demon itself, it is their only means of reproduction
Other demons:
you can come up with your own, as I said, this is a community RPG we all make parts of it up, these are just the ones we made first
there are also dragon demons, but we didn't use them in enough depth yet to decide anything.
Euphoria:
Okay, you may have noticed me refer to this a little while ago, Euphoria is an intoxicating gas that affects anything with enhanced senses (demons, animals, etc. NOT humans). It grows naturally from a tree, these trees were planted in a long row across the middle of Japan by anti-demon organizations to prevent travel by them. Euphoria causes anyone sensetive to it to go into a senseless state of bliss after being exposed to it for too long, they cannot even move until they are out of the area of the gas. Many demons die from being like this for days without eating. Some of the smart demons find the one way to get through it without human help, there are two rivers that run North and South through the river, a small oversight by the anti-demonists. Demons can simply ride a boat through these rivers and wake up outside the forest somewhere down (or up) the river. Some humans had found a way to refine it to use for themselves as a drug, although there is no law about refined euphoria, it is generally frowned on by society.
Gods:
Gods are beings with extremely high amounts of power, DO NOT CONFUSE THEM WITH BEING ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEAD!!! they mostly have nothing at all to do with the dead, as the immortals generally take care of themselves without any kind of leader. Gods live in the god realm, (duh :P) an alternate dimension where they have absolute control, even more than on Earth. Gods are immortal, no mortal can kill them, no matter how powerful they are. Gods have a powerful spirit in them, they have a special set of magic that would destroy anyone else who tried to use it
Gods List:
Nahmias- god of healing, blind except in god realm, very kind
Yarima- goddess of chaos, very seductive, can alter reality and give the same power to others temporarily, often holds loved ones hostage to get others to do what she wants on Earth, lives in the darkness dimension
(we made more, I just never got around to compiling this list very well, feel free to make more)
Magic:
magic is a common practice, quite a few of the villages even have magic schools. All magic requires a hand-sign, or series of hand-signs to focus properly, sometimes arcane words are also needed. There are five levels of magic, basic spells require no written spellbook/scroll and are the easiest to learn (in contrast, magic in general is not easy). Beginner magic is commonly found in a small book that can even be bought in many villages, these spells require a book like this as part of it's focus, if a hand-sign requires two hands, the book is enchanted to float for a few seconds after you let go of it if left open to a page. Intermediate magic is found in a slightly rarer book and works in much the same way, it just has more complicated spells. Master magic is unbelievably rare, they never were able to gather enough to compile it into a book, and it is most often found in the form of tattered scrolls, it would take years of practice to learn just one of these spells. the last category is godly magic, only able to be used by gods, any other trying to use spells like these will destroy their soul.
If a spell is attempted many times without success, it will back up inside the person and eventually burst out all at once, destroying everything in a wide radius around the person (not the person themself).
Known Spells: (not all of them, just the ones that have been used in-game so far) [magic level key= basic:- beginner:b intermediate:I master:m godly:g]
fireball(I)= flaming mass flies from hand of caster
magnetize(-)= draws anything metal to a chosen point by the caster
soul sharing(g)= soulless body is bound to the caster's soul, but is remanifested as a small child, physically and mentally, must remain close to the caster until their soul can be returned to their body. without this technique, soulless bodies will stop functioning within hours after losing it
wind blades(b)= visible blades of air fly out of the book at a target
Dimension of Light:
this is where all ascended souls go, they are manifest as their old forms, but they cannot interact physically with visitors from other planes, and are bound there forever. A blank white void, like purgatory, and can be manipulated as such by its inhabitants, though once again, beings from other planes cannot interact.
Dimension of Darkness:
This dimension holds the souls of the beings who refused to ascend and wander the plane in envy of the living. Yarima rules over this dimension, she has absolute control there, and usually abuses it for her own twisted amusement with chaos.
The soul devourers live on this plane. They feed off of the unascended souls in the dimension, but also like to steal them right out of bodies in the living world, leaving behind empty husks. This is extremely rare, however, as it only happens when they show a moment of weakness, and as rare as the devourers are, it is very unlikely. If the devourer is destroyed, any body that had it's soul stolen will have it returned as long as it hasn't stopped functioning yet.

DEAR GOD I just spent the last 7 hours writing that!
please be aware that most of my games start off as: "here's your enemy... go..." and this is the result, alright then, here's how this one is going to start:
It has been 5 years since the events at fatefall, everything is finally at peace, or as peaceful as this world gets here, but the Oni-Patousai's death and the destruction of fate itself has seemed to awaken something, the extremely varying climates of Japan seemed to be becoming chaotic, snowing in the deserts, heatwaves in the mountains, the plain's grass rotting, and the northern wastes seemed to be swept with sandstorms. Supposedly, four new gods had awakened. the fire god: Kaen, the water god: Mizu, the earth god: Wakusei, and the wind god: Kaze. All of them still being young, they are fighting for control of the country... go...

All of them still being young, they are fighting for control of the country... go...
