The following text is an introduction. This will NOT be entertaining, but it is somewhat essential.:
Introduction
The thirteen major races of Sindria. Humans, angels, demons, weres, harpies, elves, vampires, monsters, ethereal, cubi, beastias, dragoons, and kitsune.
Humans rule most of the world, being one of the most adaptable and balanced races, good at everything but great at nothing.
Elves rule most of the forests, splitting them with the monsters, both sentient and non. Excelling in accuracy, speed, agility, and magicl. But they lack in the physical aspects. They always have pointed, long ears, the points just passing the back of their heads. Elves have a life-span average of one thousand years, so a custom that came from the elves, and that is widely accepted and practiced among other races is to bind ones soul to a married one, meaning if the spouse dies, the elf follows.
Harpies rule the mountains. Once thought to be an all female race, it was recently discovered that their were males of the species, but very few. However, the male population has only just rose to near the female population, ending the cushy breeder life of most of the males, to mixed reactions. Harpies, much like angels and demons all have wings, but all of the harpies wings are feathery. Harpies wings are varied, moreso than skin color. The wings could be attached to their arms or back, and in a multitude of colors. They have no feet, talons replacing them. Feathers can range from head to toe in feathers, to naked as a human. Harpies with no feathers on their bodies, white wings on their backs, and with blonde hair are considered good omens and celebrations often following them. They are also often mistaken for angels, which is understandable since this is why they are a good omen, they look like the angels of old, the ones which are from the kingdoms of Heaven. Harpies, if their life is not cut short, live for about one hundred and fifty years. Harpies speed is nigh unmatched, and they rely on this to make up for their speices tendancy to not be very strong. Harpies can take a few hits, both physicly and magicly, but not that many.
Angels do live on Sindria, but they are not from the kingdom of heaven, although they name their capital kingdom Etal, which is elven for Heaven. Not all angels are pure, some as evil as the devil itself. Much like their "brother" race demons, Angels don't have their own territory, and are content living amongst the others. However, one idea of angels does remain, that angels and demons almost constantly war, and the few times of peace are short lived, and shifty. Angels are born with strange, light colored long hair. Angels generally have white, feathery wings, however, every now and then an angel with black wings is born, and is thought to bring death and destruction to the angels as long as it is alive, and with angel life-spans reaching thirteen hundred, this is a very bad thing. Wether this rumor is true or not is unknown. Angels are great in all the things elves are, and weak in the same things. Angels DO prefer light oriented magic, but can use darkness.
Demons, like angels are very stereotyped race. Thought to be from hell itself, and pure evil. But both are untrue. Demons have been known to be priests for humans even. Demons stick to dark oriented magic, fire as well. Demons tend to excel in both physical and magical strength and resistance, and are taught very well pretty early. They are not horrible in anything, but everything other then their strengths are weaker than medium. Demons always have leathery, bat-like wings and horns, although the horns are in a very varied style. Demons almost always have dark colored hair, unless dyed. Demons become tougher as they grow older, so eventually, they become nigh unkillable.
Dragoons, like humans, rule much of the world, being one of the three major rulers of the world. However, unlike many humans, Dragoons are traditionalists, enjoying the ways old in comparison to more modern niceties. Dragoons are a hybrid of dragons and humans. This is doubtably biological, however they were not made by mortal hands. They are a true species, made by the hands of the gods, just like the other races. Dragoons are one of, if not the most diverse breed in Sindria. They can have the skin of dragons as well as humans, and both can be different colors. The dragon likeness of dragoons varies as well, from humans with draconic eyes to the opposite, dragons with human eyes. Bipedal dragons live in human like settlements, ranging from ten house villages, to great castle cities, most larger, four legged dragoons staying in cave systems. Dragoons are a phenomenal race, above average in almost everything. However, their wings are very weak and thin, and if the "stalks", the main muscle of the wing is wounded deep enough, there is a very good chance it would never heal, the chances of it healing nearly one in three thousand. If this is case, the dragoon will never fly again. Dragoons find this to be a horrible punishment or crime. This is also part of their death penalties, cutting off their wings and legs and letting them starve. Dragoons age literary varies as much as their bodies. The life span of the species is one hundred to twenty thousand years. Dragoons protect dragons, and consider them with the highest respect under gods. Dragoons past a certain point of draconicness have an extra hard shell of bone under their chest, before their ribs. Dragons are hunted this, as well as dragoons, to make armor or shields. Their necks become very thin at this point, so even a small cut could cause death.
Beastias are thought to be an evolutionary offshoot of Dragoons, having the same situation as dragoons, but only with common animals. Neither can choose how they look. Beastias are to diverse to have any strengths and weaknesses listed, seeing as the animals they are taken after and how much they take after the animal can alter that. Beastias also take after their animals in their cultures and living habits. For example, tiger beastias will go through a mating season, and are independent afterwards, whereas wolf beastia always stay with their mates, much like humans. However, more and more beastia are resisting their instincts, such as the tiger beastias staying with their mate, or cat and dog beastia marriges. All beastia, every animal type, is united as one speices ruled by one king/queen. The largest diffrence between Beastia and Dragoons is that the most animalisitc a Beastia can get is fur covering their body and a tail and/or ears of the animal.
Ethereals are elementals, balls of an element and conscience. A race in decline, ethereals were thought to be gods, or direct voices to them. What little is left of the race are, like beastias, to diverse to determine strengths and weaknesses. Almost nothing is known about Ethereals
Vampires are well known, so only a few myths shall be mentioned here. Vampires can go into sunlight without turning to ash, but most of their power comes from darkness so they stay in the dark. Sunlight CAN hurt them, but there have been very very few injuries or serious probloms caused by the sun. One would have to stand in the sun from sun up to sun down to be killed by it, and stand in the sun for six hours to be burned seriously. Vampires aren't burned by crosses, and garlic has no effect on them. Holy water doesn't bother them, and a stake through the heart does kill them, but it kills any other race as well. Vampires cannot shapeshift as in myth, but they do like to take bats as pets, seeing their similarities. Vampirism increases magic, at the cost of some strength. They have human sized pointed ears. Vampirism can be transferred, but only through blood. This is generally done by the vampire biting him or herself, then with the fangs still bloody, biting the other. Vampires age, like weres don't change. Their life-spans the same as their first race. Every year a red moon rises in Sindria, the bloody moon as it is called. This drives vampires into what is called a blood frenzy, during which, the vampires will feed until full, with no remorse or thought. Upon which they will fall into a deep sleep for the rest of the night. If a frenzied vampire smells his or her own blood, they will drink themselves dry, killing themselves. And if a vampire cannot fill themselves with blood before the moon sets, they will live in a frenzy for the rest of their days.
Weres are also well known, but only the wolf strain. Weres can be of any common animal. Wereism is transferred through DNA into the other race, be it through sex, blood, or saliva. Once this happens, the afflicted will turn to a beast like form, a combination of that animal and their species, that night and run on instincts one hundred percent. This can lead to anything in between a mass murdering spree, to chasing their tail till sunrise. This is easier with the races that deal with instincts all the time, dragoons, beastias, monsters, harpies and kitsune. Weres always seem to gain the aspects of the animals they are weres of. For example, one who becomes a were-bear, they will gain more strength and brute physical power, both defensively and offensivly, but they always lose some in the category of the arcane. Weres can turn Natural, their main form, Were, which is obvious, and feral, the animal form of what animal the were is a were of. It is rare to be able to talk in feral form, but it has happened. Wereism and vampiresim is not accepted in all parts of the world. It isn't known how weres change, but they, cubi, and kitsune are the only races that can change shape. Weres often live as their animals do, werewolves forming packs for example, still living in cities with the other races, just packmates tending to stick closer to one another than they do to other villagers. However, they sometimes also try to live as they did before they changed, and it is rumored, somewhere there is a were city. Weres make a special cloth that is exported to Kitsune and Cubi. This cloth is made of a material that is fused with magic to change with the wearer. There is another way of life for weres, much like the feral monsters, that they call wild. Wild weres follow the way of the animals they are weres of. For example, wild were-wolves live in packs, running from place to place, settleing very rarely, and never for long. Wild weres rarley use their normal or were forms, and when in were form, they still live as they would as an animal. They do not wear cloths, deciding to go naked most of the time. The few who do wear cloths mearly wear skins of their prey, just enough to cover while hanging on their animal forms while not in use. Weres change is compleatly willing, just doing as their minds command. However some nights, verying from were strain to strain, it is harder to control. For example, full moon nights for werewolves, and harvest moons for cats.
Cubi, the plural, non gender specific form of Incubus or succubus, are another pointy eared race. Cubi ears are in the middle, not human sized, but they don't pass the head like the elves ears do. Also, cubi ears go outwards, sideways, a little bit past the base. The ears can rise or fall to show emotion. Cubi feed on souls, formally from the races, but they have recently began to feed off normal non-sentient races. If they feed from a still living creature, the creature dies, but the body is still alive. However, if they kill a person, or find a dead body they must hurry to feed on a soul after death, so that it doesn't fade away. Cubi can read minds to a limited degree, enter and meddle with dreams, as well as shape-shift. Entering and/or meddleing with a persons dream isn't illegal in any culture, just considered rude. But considering that cubi can get a little sustenance from dreams, most people don't make to much of it. The wings a cubi has are the most varied, from leathery to feathery and in all different colors, but always on their backs. These wings can be shifted as well as their bodies, sharpened and hardened and such. Cubi are an odd race, they are not a disease, like vampires or weres. They are born naturally, however how they look is strewn about nine of the races, ethereals don't have any cubi. The ears will not change on them if they have different than human ears already, angels, demons, dragoons, and humans are the only races whose ears will change. Cubi are always adept in magic, and frequently are pretty fast, but usually have to work harder to be as strong as some of the others. Cubi put a high value on intelligance, attempting to educate their youth as early as possible. Cubi life-spans are almost impossible to place, seeing as their life-span and power increases as they consume souls. Cubi tend to be rather artful, but do enjoy a good fight. Cubi don't need to sleep or eat, but it is a fail-safe incase they couldn't get any souls in a long enough time. In that case, their bodies revert to food and sleep as a source of survival. Often, Cubi are considered evil because of their food source. However, very few cubi are.
Monsters are impossiblely diverse, and also the most death prone. They are divided into two, sentient and non. Monsters are the category everything that doesn't fall into the other categories goes into. Sentient monsters, in order to not be mistaken for the insane, murderous kind, will wear or brand the marking of their clan into their flesh.
Kitsune are NOT spirit foxes, but they are their descendents. It's unknown what happened to the kitsune spirits, although war has brought about the belief that the races had killed them. But the more realistic, and more widely believed rumor is that they simply gave up their immortality to live in peace. This is of course not true, but this is what is believed. They live relatively long, but not as long as most, or as long as their ancestors. Nine hundred ninety nine years, gaining a tail every hundred years. Once this happens, the Kitsune also receives a small burst of power. In Kitsune culture, tails and age represent rank, which is all well and good to most Kitsune, finding age and experience one of the best ways to lead. The youngest a Kitsune is aloud to rule a clan, generally, is at four hundred thirty years of age, and the oldest is nine hundred twenty. Kitsune usually are very adept with magic, both defensive and offensive, and they tend to be very agile, good with there hands, and smart. Kitsune do have many abilities including Kitsune seduction, where the kitsune puts the other in a world they create, the person seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, and smelling what the Kitsune says they are, this is done by looking directly into the Kitsunes eyes, or at his or her tails when they are moved in a certain way, normal seduction, which clouds the "victims" mind into believing he or she is in love with the kitsune, Kitsune Bi, a large, firey wave that even the most inexperianced Kitsune can use, colored by the kitsunes spirit, fox lanterns, which are small balls of fire, also colored by the sanctitiy of the kitsunes soul, mainly used for illumination and very limited protection, but are used to entertain young kitsune, and pocket dimensions, small "holes" in the world, leading to another dimension that the kitsune has created. These are to be used for storage, but can be used for hiding. Although it is unknown how the kitsune can escape the pocket dimension, they can live inside these areas, and a strong enough Kitsune can even control the flow of time in it, making even three minutes seem like three years, but it takes a lot out of even the strong Kitsunes. Powerful Kitsune, usually higher level, can even populate their pocket dimension, from forests with animals to whole kingdoms that are fully populated. How Kitsune control these worlds is unknown, but the people inside are mostly not real, although their intelligence can mimic the Kitsunes, or they can be as dim as cavemen. These people will die if they are not fed. They mimic souls but have none that are real. They will dissapere if the dimension is wiped. The best way to tell a Kitsune is by having a high spiritual awareness, in which their tails, or one of them, and/or their ears, will be visable, or looking at their shadows which many young kistune forget to cover up. Kitsune are seperated into two catagorys, Myobus and Nogistune, just like the spirit foxs. They aknowlage the same gods the sprit foxs did, namly Inari, the god of Kitsune. Those who serve Inari, and lead a good life, not commiting any great sins are Myobu. Those who disobay the laws Inari had set, and attack the other races unprovoked are deemed Nogistune. Nogistune are not evil, so much as wild Kitsune, rebellious people basicly.
Sindria has a multitude of areas, but the most important few are listed here. Techion is a neutral city, founded by humans. Techion is an advanced place, always pushing the borders of exploration and technology. Techion is the only place that vehicles are allowed, and because of this, they are given a lot of an area. Techion is one of the very few regions physically fenced off from the rest of the world. The fence rises to the clouds, and is there to warn people of the borders of Techion, and to keep cars and such from driving into the rest of Sindria. While technology and advancements can be fun, not many people enjoy living in Techion because of the noise and guns and such that are bound to Techion.
Telmusic is named for a great hero, and is also known as the city of music. The legend has it that a man had slain one thousand monsters on that spot, by playing a "song of death", Killing the beasts instantly. Telmusic is a town where music takes the forefront of technology, but buildings are mildly modern as well. This is also a neutral town were all races may take safe haven.
There is religion in Sindria, but not all are accepted.
Direism is a non-accepted religion, because it is a sacrificial religion. Direism takes from the monsters that are merely giant animals which are very violent and ruthless beyond all meaning, which are known as Dire animals. The belief of Direism is that the Gods are dire of the races, and that they put mortals here to become dire themselves and rise to kill the current gods and become gods themselves. But because of the lengthy time here, mortals have accepted being mortal, never to rise to be gods, and that the delivers of Direism are the true eyes of the gods. Sacrificing is a big part, for they belive killing the mortals that have forgotten the true calling will please the gods and let them gain the strength of dire.
The more often used Religion is much like the greek religion of earth. Many of the gods are godesses, and both the leader of heaven and the ruler of hell are females. The relgion has never been named, but they belive that there are three kinds of gods. First is the goddess, Timiat, or the great mother, all names representing the same goddess. She is thought to be the mother of all creation, including the gods. There is no known aspect of the goddess, no set look to her. Then there are the ones who watch over the areas of the world. There are many, many gods in this catagory, such as Dai-Rin, Ku-tho, Kai-Jin, and more. These are gods of ceritain things, the religion beliving that Timiat entrusted them with the things they are gods or goddesses over. For example, Ku-tho, being the god of land, would be told to watch over the probloms and actions that land caused, such as earthquakes, or troubles of the land, such as deforestation. However, in hell, the devil herself comes in the place of Timiat, being the mother of all destruction and chaos. The devil does not have any under her, like the Great Mother has Ku-tho and the others. This belief is often disliked because of the potryal of the devil being a woman, but at the same time is accepted by these same people because of the Great Mother.
There are sentient races other than the main thirteen, but they are not counted, because of various reasons.
Carbuncle are small fox like creatures, they have rabbit like back feet and pointed ears the size of rabbit ears. But the rest of them is of a fox. They have a jewel in their forehead that falls out once every seven and a half years. They have taken an isolation role in the world, living amongst themselves, but occasionally going out into the world and living with one of the twelve races, Ethereals, when rarely seen, have never been spotted with a pet. Carbuncles are living essences of magic, or so the legend goes, capable of even resurrecting the dead. But the true extent of their power is unknown. One thing that IS for sure, is that even if, by some miracle you catch a carbuncle, it's impossible to force it to help you. They will only help on their own free will. Carbuncle keep to themselves in the world because the shifting territories of the twelve kingdoms don't matter to them, this is because every race respects them and they can live no matter who rules what territory.
Fairies are an all female race, so it isn't known how the species procreates, although it is thought by budding. In reality, they are born live, but not from the mother fairy. Fairies live closely with plants, and the plant acts as the male and female, given the parents blood. The plant is a closed one, always looking like a rose not quite in bloom, a fairy will prick her finger on the flowers thorn, and the flower will develop a baby fairy when the flower blooms. Fairy villages are often found near Kitsune villages in flower patches, because Kitsune can shrink down and interact with them, and near elf villages, since elves respect nature much more than most of the races. Fairies have no part in the worlds squabbles, except for using healing and protective magic, which they are very adept at. Fairies cannot, however, take any attacks, and it's uncommon for them to use any offence magic.
Dragons exist in Sindria, but are content living alongside Dragoons, and since all races allow them to live where ever they want, for fear of dragons helping out dragoons and killing the rest of the races off. Male dragons and female have diffrent tell-tale signs of their gender, other than the obvious. Females will have a row of brightly colored feathers lineing their neck, which are used to attract mates when the time comes, or scare off enemys, and males have horns and "spikes" lineing the spine. Dragons can breath fire and talk, and even a very very weak telepathic signal, and they do live in caves and have been known to horde gold, but they are not often evil. Dragons have an interesting courtship ritual, the suitor challenging a male brood-mate, a member of the brood, or family, or a parent in the unlikely event a dragon brood is all female, to a fight, and if the suitor won, he would earn the right to be the females mate. A hatching is a very special thing for anyone outside of the brood to be invited to. Runts are not permited to stay with the dragon family when born. This is because the parents know the runt will die if left to live naturally. They will leave the runt with a family of the nearest village, left to a family who will care for the child.
Wyverns are two legged creatures made by dragons, mainly used for sentries, messengers, deliveries, and other such things. Wyverns stand on two legs, and are often rather tall. They will have wings in stead of front legs or arms. They frequently take after the color of the dragon who created them, but pure dragons, wether pure good or evil, Wyverns will be black or white, corresponding on what the dragon is. Wyverns aren't very intelligent creatures, but they are sentient, and they take after their "master", the dragon who created them. It's unknown if a Wyvern can breed, but no dragon takes that chance.
