Should there be further restrictions on the advertising, selling, and smoking of tobacco? Should it be banned? Should there be less restrictions?
Discuss.

Since I've been around smokers all my life I'll join in on this one.
restricting ads I believe is definitely the way to go but I think people need to stop whinning about smoking in established businesses like resturants and bars because honestly they have a smoking section for that reason.
bars were invented so people could go and relax and while I don't personally smoke some people relax by having one.
the only people I've ever heard cry over it are over protective moms and other stupid people that think along the lines of "a movie is a place to babysit my whiney brats"
as for the selling people are supposed to be iding to make sure they are 18/21 or whatever your legal age is.
while I think a program to handle nic withdrawal should be set up out right banning smoking would be impossible due to the chaos and violence that would inherently ensue.

Personally, I think it's nasty and self-destructive habit. It requires self hatred to smoke, and me and my sister used to give my dad all kinds of hell to get him to stop.
As a libertarian, it's not really the place for the government to interfere. Frankly, with the backlash and extensive ad campaigns against smoking, the tobacco companies know better than to get to out there (or at least they should know better). I think the real question is which industry will get crucified as badly as tobacco.

It's a person's choice on whether or not they smoke. If they do smoke, they should be prepared for the consequences. Enjoy your lung cancer.

Two words: Lung Cancer. They asked for it, err, even if they knew or not, they probably didn't care. >_> Well they have been given the warning so they should have quit before it could get worse. But unfortunately, smokers can't definitely get it out of their system completely. ¬.¬

Should we also include the fact that smoking is not just a personal choice, but affects the people around the smoker as well? Not everyone likes smoke in their face

I've been in a crowd with one or two smokers. I suffocated from sitting with one guy in the bus who was smoking continuously. ¬_¬ The only thing that I didn't do was shove him out of the bus' window then yell at him, "GET YOUR SMOKE OUTTA MY FACE!" ._.

Ooh, a debate that I can relate to!
Personally, I believe that smoking is a pleasure that only the idiotic can truly enjoy for their whole lives, but that dosn't meen that smoking should be banned. If someone wants to smoke, then by all means! Let them smoke! It's their choice, just like everything else in the USA. (I don't know if everyone from this forum lives in the general USA area of the world, but that just from my American point of view)
What CAN be done is less advertising and promotion for cigerettes and other tobacco, so that the illusion of smoking being something that is good for you is removed. This makes it so that only people who know that they want to smoke can smoke, and everyone else can stay away from the bloody stuff.

I think smoking is straight up bad. I'm currently a senior in high school so a lot of people around me have been getting into smoking, drugs, and alcohol. Personally I think it is a horrible habit that in the end just hurts you down the road more than it helps you in the present. Since I have never smoked I wouldn't know if it "feels good" or anything so I can't relate there.
Personally I think banning smoking would cause more harm then good. If smoking was made illegal more people would try it, the "It's illegal I want to try it" argument, and this would only cause those already addicted to have to go to greater lengths to get there drugs.
