All was peaceful in the Frozen River...well, as peaceful as the netherworld gets, anyway. A couple of vagrant zombies were sitting next to the river itself, and imps flew around the ground in small packs, waiting for a weakling sucker demon to show their face. As you can guess, Laharl was NOT one of these "weakling sucker demons", and was having a really bad day. He trudged toward the river, the cold not really bothering him, and sat down. The zombies looked over curiously, and as soon as they knew who it was, they took off..probably to find more friends to try and ambush him later, but whatever.
Laharl sighed, and looked at the ice that covered the river. It was almost poetic of how the frozen river itself was almost like how life had been for Laharl at one point. This river once flowed violently into a great sea, much like how Laharl had battled fierecely for the title of Overlord with Etna and Flonne. But now, it was frozen still by the cold winter that surrounded it, much like how whe Laharl gained the title of Overlord, his life became still...and a bit boring, to say the least.
The two zombies came creeping back with about eight more friends, and were closing in on Laharl from behind. Laharl, his sences still sharpened, stood up and looked straight at the ten low-level zombies. "....GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE!!", Laharl yelled. The zombies, out of newfound terror or the young Overlord's wrath, skedaddled away. Laharl sat back down, and closed his eyes.

Lucretia had followed swiftly after the young prince. "Laharl! Prince Laharl please wait...Please I...back at the castle I let my mind's eye be clouded by the stories I had heard while traveling. I was certain by what I had heard that you would have been much larger and your appearance much more frightening." the blonde explained swiftly taking a breath.
"When I came here...that is during the time of my training when your father announced your birth I stayed in the castle briefly to assist the healers there. I watched you as a child Prince and you were very different...I do not understand what has changed you. You were always a good demon Prince but...your heart. shouldn't a demon's heart be at peace when it his deeds are legend and his visage feared?" the blond healer asked quietly.
"I misspoke before you were an innocent boy back then as all children are. Goodness is a term so often used when learning Cleric's duties that I switched them...I can only hope that you manage to to spare me so I might have time to know the true prince who stands before my humbled self" Lucretia finished bowing gracefully.

As he bolted through the dimensional gate, Jack kept his head low. Avoiding the wrath of the swordswoman may be futile, but he had to give it a shot. He zipped past Laharl and the strange lady healer, then slipped and fell face first into the snow.
The chill of the ice stung his flesh, but Jack paid little heed. He waved his arms in the snow and made a snow angel. Jack hopped out and observed his little creation.
"Eh? What d'ya think?"

Laharl opened his eyes after listening to the pathetic cleric babble on about goodness, innocence and a bunch of other borderline-Celestian crap, and stood up. He set his eyes on the river, and then focused his attention on Lucretia. She didn't seem like sh wanted to fight, but that was no reason to not frighten her out of her wits.
"You want to know what changed me, foolish Cleric? Reality! THAT'S what changed me! I was no doubt some sniviling little ball of innocence when I was first born, but since then I've been too busy becoming an Overlord to even acknowledge what innocence is! My old man might have had some sort of laid-back attitude, but NOT ME! Demons are demons, that's pure reality. And quit babbling about me sparing your life! You're not even worth a single swong of my sword, so get up and leave me alone!!", he half-explained, half-yelled at her.
He then looked at Jack, who was busy making snow angels. He rolled his eyes. "Idiot. You clerics are all the same, huh? Whatever, it's not like I can change you." He sat back down by the river, staring at the zombies who had retreated to a tree that was about a few yards away. "Hmmph...I don't even like snow angels..."

"Reality is subjective prince" Lucretia stated sharply as she stood up steadying herself.
"Demons are demons but that doesn't mean anything! Perhaps my existence is inherently opposed to the nature of demons but that does not mean that it's wrong or that demons are evil. IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT FORCE IS RIGHT...no child should ever be robbed of their parents...If such is the power you covet then I think the best thing would be for you to choke of that selfish sense of entitlement and die" Lucretia twitched then turned to Jack.
"That's very nice but I don't like white" she replied to his question and then started away from where the two men were.

Jack listened to the spat between Laharl and the healer woman. While there was an urban legend about some demons having angelic ancestry, or at least among fallen angels, this was not exactly a satisfactory explanation as to why this woman would antagonize Laharl so. There had to be some other explanation for her outbursts. Still, as hot as she was, she was still getting on his nerve.
"Might doesn't make right?" Jack scoffed, "You know who gets the luxury of fretting over the conduct of the battle? The winner! Violence works, history is full of examples. When one shows overwhelming force that removes from the enemy all faith that they can win, you're set. This isn't a damn afterschool special, this is realpolitik."

Alexa chuckled under her breath at Jacks comment and ran after everyone else into the portal. Alexa looked are round and realized that she was home, she was back at the Frozen River. A sense of freedom and peace flooded over Alexa that she had not felt since she left. Alexa was so caught up in he thought that she tripped over Jack, who was laying in the snow, and fell on her face.
Laharl and girl healer argued about goodness for and Alexa started to wonder if she had an ancestor that was an angel and that is why she was not brutal like the other demons. Jack then made a comment about strength being all that matters, "Wait Jack, strength is what is most important and yet you chose to be a healer?" Alexa asked. Alexa diverted her attention when she saw the zombies start to inch their way back, probably to try to ambush Laharl while he was busy arguing.

Laharl stood back up with an angry expression on his face. He had come here to relax, dammit, but all that this cleric was dong was making him angrier by trying to change his ways for some reason. He grabbed the hilt of his Cosmic Blade, just about ready to chop her in half. "It dosen't matter if my parents were killed! That's just more proof that the netherworld is a dangerous place, teeming with demons who would kill you for the clothes on your back! And if you think I should die for being who I am, then maybe I should kill you first!!"
Laharl was finally letting his anger take control of him. He unsheathed his blade, and took a step toward Lucretia. This argument was over, and Laharl was going to keep it that way. He raised his blade high into the sky. "WHY DON'T YOU JUST DIE ALREADY?!", he yelled, and swung his sword down hard.
SLAAASH!!
A zombie who had been right behind Lucretia, waiting for a good moment to attack her, was sliced neatly in half by Laharl's attack. The other nine zombies yelped, and ran off into the distance. This time (hopefully) for good. Laharl put away his sword, and sighed.
Laharl then looked over at Alexa, and raised his eyebrow at her. This was one of Laharl's ways of acknowledging someone witout saying a word. He then looked at Jack. "The shogun over here has a point. What drove you to become a sissy cleric when you could be powerful?"

"You're right Jack the winners are the ones who can fret over the battle...I won...I can never change that..." Lucy muttered.
A sudden pain struck Lucretia like some strange combination of a railroad spike and a brick //THAT'S RIGHT YOU WON. I have the power you seek...kill the overlord and you will have all the power in the neither world...//
Lucretia wavered slightly as her vision blurred and the pain erupted in the back of her head. "*Urgh* I won't...not again...I will never take another, another life so long as I live...not even a selfish person unable to see anything beyond his own heart...get another pawn for your stupid game...I won't...I won't play anymore" Lucretia spat struggling to take one step after the other to get away from Laharl and the others fearing that she would again lose control.

In spite of the cold, Jack managed to sweat as the subject of his strength came up. He scratched his chin in nervousness and explained, "Eh, I had reasons to become a healer, and when I found out those reasons were way wrong it was impossible to get the hell out. Security at the healing school for guys is airtight. Besides, getting powerful takes work, and until work is as engaging as the Slaystation I'm not going to work that hard."
He looked to either side and added, "Besides, why work hard if you can get someone else to do it for you?"
Jack braced himself, somewhat concerned that he might take a whack for his audacity and openness in his laziness. Still, exploiting others was the demon way, so honesty couldn't be that dangerous.
