Biography: From his earliest years, Marcus was a cold and reserved intellectual. Like other demons, he longed for power. However, unlike other demons he was painfully aware that anyone with the title of Overlord lived with a bullseye on him at all times. That's when it dawned on him that the best way to hold power would be through others. And so he schemed to acquire power as the power behind the throne.
Unfortunately, he lacked any actual fighting power, which would be needed if he wanted to live long as a demon. The opportunity to gain strength and acquire influence came with the Winged Rebellion some centuries earlier. He was impressed with the Overlord Krichevskoy and decided to enlist in his service. During that conflict, he acquired the nickname "Boogie," noting the contrast between his cold personality and odd taste in music. While he didn't acquire much influence, he did improve his magic prowess a little and get a war record.
When the Overlord passed away, Boogie decided to back his son, Laharl. While he thought that the Prince was hotheaded and foolish, he believed Laharl would be capable of ruling. And if Boogie decided that Laharl wasn't suited, being an insider gave him a better position to dispose of him and place a puppet ruler on the throne.
Recently, his magic power has been skyrocketing. Boogie has noticed that with this increased power was a growing sense of euphoria and the stone mask that he wore was starting to crack. Whether he is just getting drunk with power, or a real change is occuring within him remains to be seen.
Among his other ambitions, he hopes to make his Netherworld stand supreme above all others.
Interests: Magic, funk music, and spy movies.
Vassals: None (yet)
Sample Roleplay:
Boogie adjusted his jacket as he prepared to stand before the Dark Assembly. He opened the massive doors and walked to the pedestal with slight trepidation as the many eyes of the demon senators glared down on him. Boogie stood at the speaker's podium and cleared his throat. The Winged demons serving as pages finished their work and were clearing out.
Boogie took a deep breath and addressed the Assembly, "Esteemed members of the Dark Assembly, I stand before you with a bill drafted with the interests of the Netherworld as its central objective. We are entering a period of civil war and as history has demonstrated, such times are have a negative influence on our standard of living and stable economic growth. It has also been demonstrated that plundering other worlds during such times relieves pressure on the strains of internal strife. Not only do the riches stabilize the economy, but it gives an outlet for otherwise mischevious elements.
"Therefore, I petition the Dark Assembly to open the seals and gateways listed in the bill for the continued prosperity of the Netherworld."
The senators not swayed by Boogie's words were enthused by the bribes secreted into the envelopes containing the bills. The cry "Yea" overwhelmed the weak disenters, and so the legislative process won once more.
