Gordon had been hesitant to depart from Earth: after a refreshing chat with the pizza man and the subsequent pleasant encounter with the pizza he was given, Gordon had already begun to miss the comforts of his home planet and life of luxury as he traversed the galaxy. "Ah, but the shining stars and the clang of sturdy and science-proven spaceship beneath my feet... yes, space is truly where I belong! Has it not been man's dream, since first he gazed at the stars?" Gordon recited, having reassured himself similarly in past self-monologues on his previous expeditions. "Yes, with my companions Jennifer and Thursday, I can emerge unharmed from the deepest reaches of the galaxy. And, what do we have here?" Gordon grinned, staring out of the window on the captain's bridge. "Jennifer's improvements have made this ship state-of-the-art. Why, look at this!" he laughed, "we've already made it to the-"
A huge thud on the bow of the ship caused the whole vessel to rock, as a flashing red light and loud alarm alerted the crew to the danger. "W-what's this? Something hit our ship?" Giving a quick survey of the monitors, Gordon pinpointed the problem. "A monster... something huge, enormous... and it's still there! At this rate, it'll-" Gordon's speech was cut off by another terrifying tremor in the structure of the ship. "Jennifer and Thursday aren't aware of what's going on... if it's come to that, then there's only one thing for me to do!" Drawing his blaster from his pocket and equipping the helmet of his spacesuit, Gordon headed to the bridge exit door. "We've already cleared the atmospheric pressure of descent, so we'll have a smooth landing... as long as I can get rid of this menace."
Gordon was out on the wing of his ship in a moment, staring down a humongous lion-like creature with a face like a man, but ghastly fangs protruding from its lower lips and rippling muscles beneath its shaggy fur. It had clearly boarded the ship using small wings on its back. "It's like... some sort... some sort of Demon!" Gordon choked, leveling his blaster with the creature. "Demon! I won't let you lay a fang on Thursday or Jennifer!" With that, Gordon opened fire on the creature, giving it a few shots square between the eyes. The creature roared, unable to do anything but growl in return. It seemed to be using all its strength just to hold onto the ship. Gordon hadn't realized due to his magnetic boots, but the ship had begun to accelerate toward the ground at a rapid pace.
"Not giving in, eh, you monster? Then I have no choice. For my mission, prepare to be defeated! Goooordoooooon," he began, beginning a fighting pose. As soon as he lifted a leg to do so, however, he became instantly aware of how fast he was plummeting. In not a second's time, he and the monster had both been ripped from the hull and flung across the red-tinted canyons of the Netherworld.
It was a while before Gordon regained consciousness. Rubbing a sore spot on his head, the captain became aware that his helmet had been destroyed in the fall. "Ugh, it's lucky none of the glass entered my brain... but, their is the good news that I can breath in the atmosphere here... and to be out here, and still have my blaster on me... I'm a truly lucky- Wait!" Gordon sprung, jumping to his feet in spite of his small injuries. "Jennifer! The ship! Where-"
Any chances to even catch sight of a smoke trail or horizon point to help him find his way back to the ship were thwarted by the high canyon peaks surrounding his position. "... I guess... I'm alone..." Gordon muttered, dumbfounded. "W-well... not that the Defender of Earth hasn't been in a tight spot before!" Gordon said with a grin, returning to his confident state of mind in spite of the situation. "I'm sure with just a little bit of searching, I'll find some friendly face that can lead me to Jennifer and the ship. Thursday is a sturdy robot: wherever they are, I'm sure Thursday's taking care of everything until I get back. Hang on, you two!" he shouted across the canyons. "I'm on my way!"
