I just remembered a couple little touches that make D2 the best: If the target died in the middle of a combo, the characters who couldn't attack could be canceled and used to act elsewhere. Also, there was the ability to toss to other characters and those characters would catch and be able to throw to another point.

Yeah, those were some awesome points. The game simply runs much smoother. As much as I love laharl, gameplay makes or breaks a game for me. And when you can skip animations an' things, it't like... auto-win.

Mmmm. I liked D2 the best I suppose. I don't like the confining elements of PB and MK. I never even went past a 3rd dungeon on MK it annoyed me. I nearly beat PB and I kept either losing people from confinement running out or they just got PLOWED over by Sulphur. Ahaha... ;_; La Pucelle is a good game too, btw.

I think maybe The 1st Disgaea is my favorite, but I can't be sure because I haven't played Phantom or D2. Makai Kingdom is a nice change, though.

I didn't like the free-form system in PB and MK, it was impossible for your tough characters to protect your weaker allies because the enemy would just run past them and slaughter the weaker ones. Another thing, the sprites were scrunched up compared to D1 and D2, that and the fields seemed to take forever to navigate because they were so darn big (never mind how screwy the whole throwing and inventory systems were that made it worse).
